We all know the rhyme, “something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue.” Ledged has it, that if the bride wears items that represent those descriptions, it will bring her luck in her marriage. Brides today, do it less for that belief and more of a fun tradition. A lot of mothers and grandmothers donate their old gems, broaches, gloves or pearls for this portion of the tradition. We have been lucky enough here at the CCB, to have witnessed some amazing, thoughtful and fun something old items at the weddings over the years.  When you start planning your wedding, think about these unique ways to add something old into your ceremony and reception!

Wedding Cake Toppers

A perfect way to add something old into your wedding day, top your cake off with a vintage cake topper!

Wedding Dress Details

Here is a charming way to add a family heirloom into your gown, sew in a pearls or decoration from an aunt or speical family member from their gown they wore.

Handkerchief

Add a vintage lace handkerchief around your bridal bouquet. You can always add a family ring around the bouquet as well.

Car

Your something old doesn’t have to be small, if you have a vintage car in the family, use it as your getaway car!

Jewelry

A touch of sparkle from a family member will be a perfect addition to your speical day!

Our guests raved about the service, the food, the bar and the venue space. We could not be more thrilled! I cannot express how much we really loved our experience with the CCB! They were so wonderful to work with and made planning so easy for us as far as the venue. Stacy and Jill made us feel so comfortable from the moment we first visited the CCB to our last dance of our special day. Everyone there is amazing!!!

Feeling stresses about wedding gown shopping? Don’t fret, it is completely normal to feel overwhelmed at first when starting your search. With us located on the South Shore we have seen bridal gowns from all over! Luckily we have an abundant array of Bridal Shops in our great state of Massachusetts! We just love seeing all the beautiful gowns that come through our doors here at the Canoe Club Ballroom! From sparkles to lace, ball gowns to mermaid, we just love them all! We have gathered up a few ways to keep stress away when you start your search for the perfect bridal gown!

Set a Budget

Don’t forget to set a cutoff point when trying on bridal gowns. Plan to spend 10% of your overall budget on your wedding gown.

Start Early

It takes about 6-12 months from the moment you start your search. It takes 4-6 months for the gown to be made.

Do Your Research

Before you try to anything on, think about what you want your “look” to be.

Make an appointment

Once you have an idea of what you want, call ahead and check to see if the shop has the designers you are looking for.

Limit your entourage

Bring only the people you trust to your bridal appointment, having too many people might make you lose focus on what you really want to try on.

Comfort Zone

Try a few different styles on that might be out of your comfort zone. You may find your dream dress in a style that you never thought you might like!

Size

Forget about size when ordering your gown. No two designers size charts are created equal! Remember it’s easier to take a size in then to let out!

Saying Yes

Don’t worry about saying yes to your dream dress right away. Sometimes trying on dozens of dresses confuses you more than helping!

We just love getting a great review from our past happy couples! Every wedding is special to us, and we love what we do! When we receive thank you notes, and reviews we are always so grateful for the kind words! Today we will feature a celebration from the fall of 2016!

Jenney & Tim were married in a beautiful indoor ceremony on October 21, 2016! Everything about their wedding was picture perfect! The tables were adorned with glitzy overlays which made the venue sparkle and shine! Pink uplighting was the perfect accent to the eggplant and silver decor! Tim and Jenney were able to sneak out into the courtyard for photos once the rain stopped. As the night went on, guests enjoyed a delicious mashed potato bar and a perfectly pink candy station!!

I

"If you want personal service the day of your wedding, pick the Canoe Club. Stacy, Jillian and the rest of the girls go out of their way to ensure that the bride and the groom have everything they need for their amazing day. From the attention to detail and how they take all of your information, guest lists, etc and make sure everything is set up and laid out appropriately, to ensuring the room looks exactly how you envisioned. They bend over backwards to take care of any needs you may have and do everything they can to give you the wedding of your dreams. We were supposed to have an outdoor ceremony and we had ceremony cards. They laid those cards out and an hour before our ceremony, it down-poured. They quickly scooped up the cards and set up for an in-door ceremony. I had two dress issues, one, the top hook and button ripped and the girls met me in the bathroom after safety pins were no working and sewed me into my dress. Then when a glass of red wine was spilled on my blush pink wedding dress, they again, met me in the bridal bathroom and helped me to blot it out. No one that did not witness it even knew the wine had been spilled afterwards. They flipped the room from ceremony to reception in something like 2 1/2 minutes and those are just some of the examples I can speak of to sign their praises. I could not have picked a better venue and group of people to work with through the whole process. I would highly recommend the Canoe Club. Plus, having their preferred vendor list really made the search for a DJ, florist, limo service, etc. so much easier and I found incredible individuals and vendors to work with."

The tradition of grooms cakes date back all the way to the Victorian times. Along with the main wedding cake there was also the grooms cake and brides cake! At the end of the wedding the two cakes would be served to the groomsmen and bridesmaids. How fun is that!

You could also set up a dessert table in the ballroom and have it displayed throughout the recetption along with sweet treats! Either way it's a win-win, cake is always a good idea!!
